Compost Bin Rollout Phase I

ASCP News

Updated: Jun 30, 2021

Phase I of Auraria's compost bin expansion is upon us! In mid July, Auraria will receive 62 new 3-bin waste receptacles (whereby adding compost to our disposal stream in additional locations across campus). Twenty of these bins will be outdoor bins and 42 will be indoor bins, all placed in high priority areas. Learn more about what types of bins you'll see and where these bins will be placed by viewing the images below. We're so excited to finally reach this milestone after the passage of the Compost Expansion Referendum in Spring of 2020, and Cassy has worked very hard to bring this to fruition.

We need your help!

We're looking for volunteers to help us with bin rearrangement and deployment! Please email cassy.cadwallader@ahec.edu if you're interested in volunteering. We need all hands on deck to get these beautiful bins installed!

  • Volunteer Day - Moving existing waste bins to clear the way for new (7/9): From 9-12pm on 7/9 we will be shifting the existing outdoor waste bins around campus. You are both welcome to join us for that!

  • Volunteer Day - Deploying new bins (7/15 or 7/16): date dependent on the FedEx delivery schedule. This will most likely be an all-day venture and will need LOTS of hands.

  • Help spread the word: Additionally, we need anyone and everyone to please spread the word to campus constituents about why it's important to compost, why we need everyone to participate in waste diversion efforts and how to properly sort your waste (by sharing those hyperlinked materials).

The map below provides a TENTATIVE scenario for Phase I bin deployment. Some locations are subject to change and slightly different timing, but this is what is tentatively planned.
