MissionThe goal of the Sustainable Campus Program (SCP) is to reduce this campus' dependence on fossil fuels and to reduce the ecological impact of this campus overall while improving campus life for all students, faculty, and staff. This goal will be achieved by implementing fiscally sound sustainable development principles throughout the management of campus life. Another goal of the SCP is to institutionalize the principles and practices of sustainability on campus. This has been achieved by expressly detailing the authority and administrative structure of this program. SACAB has created draft bylaws for the creation of the SACAB SCP Subcommittee. The SCP Subcommittee will make programmatic decisions, in consultation with the Division of Facilities Management and the Division of Student & Auxiliary Services. This structure will ensure student fee money is allocated judiciously and in line with the principles of the SCP detailed in this proposal. Projects supported by the Sustainable Campus Program include increasing current renewable energy programs, increasing the overall energy efficiency of campus buildings, increasing current recycling and integrated waste management programs, reducing per capita water use on campus, other similar initiatives designed to reduce the Auraria Campus' dependence on fossil fuels and to reduce the ecological impact of the Auraria Campus overall, and lastly marketing the efforts made in these areas to the campus population with educational programs and displays. Included in this proposal is an option for creation of a staff position in a later year(paid for entirely by the proposed Sustainable Campus Program fee) to implement and manage program recommendations. |
